Worm




A computer worm is a self-replicating computer program. It uses a network to send copies of itself to other networks. Unlike viruses, worms doesn’t need to attach itself to an existing program. Worms almost always cause harm to the network. Worms can also infect computers through web sites, file sharing systems, instant messages, and more.

To protect yourself against computer worms, you should be wary of opening unexpected e-mails and should not run attached files or programs. You also shouldn’t visit web sites that are linked to such emails. Anti-virus and anti-spyware softwares are also helpful, but it must be kept up-to-date with new pattern files.Some people say that the best way to protect yourself against computer worms is not to run Microsoft software.

Types of Computer worms
-Email worms::spreading goes through infected by email messages.
-Instant messaging worms
-Internet worms::able to scan all available network resources using local operating system services. It can also scan the Internet for vulnerable machines.
-IRC worms::sending infected files by chat channels
-File sharing Network Worms::It can copy itself into a shared folder
