A Trojan Horse will appear to be a useful software at first, but it will actually damage once it is installed or run on your computer. When the Trojan Horse is activated, the results can vary. Trojans can change your desktop, delete files, or destroy information on your system. A Trojan Horse are also known as a backdoor of your computer. It gives random users access to your system. It can leak out your personal information. Unlike viruses, Trojans do not reproduce by infecting other files and they self-replicate.
To avoid getting infected, you should never download from people or sites you aren’t 100% sure about. Even if the file is sent from your friend, you should be sure what the file is about before opening it. Another way to avoid getting infected, is to never use features in your programs that automatically get or preview files. Also, don’t be lulled into a false sense of security just because you run an anti-virus program.
To recover from a Trojan Horse you should first call IT support. You should also disconnect your computer from the Internet. It is because intruders may have access to your personal information by internet use. You should always back up your important files just in case you have a Trojan Horse. Reinstalling your operating system and scanning your machine is also a great way to recover from getting a Trojan Horse. To prevent future infections, you shouldn’t open unsolicited attachments in email messages, don’t follow unsolicited links, maintain your updated antivirus software, use an Internet firewall, secure your web browser, and keep your system patched.

Types of Trojan Horses
7 main types of Trojan horses are::
FBI called phishing the “hottest, and most troubling, new scam on the Internet.” The term phishing comes from the fact that Internet scammers are using sophisticates lures as they ‘fish’ for Internet user’s financial information.

People try to “hook” you when some one contacts you unexpectedly and asks for your personal information such as your account number, an account password, credit card number, or social security number. The sender might ask you to confirm that you have a relationship with the company. You might sometimes get warned that your account will be shut down unless you ‘reconfirm’ your financial information. Some links sent to your e-mail asks you to provide personal information.

To avoid being a victum, don’t reply to emails or pop-up messages that ask for your personal information and don’t click on links in the message. Use anti-virus, anti-spyware software, and firewall. Update them regularly. Review credit card and bank account statements as soon as you get them to check for unauthorized charges. Be cautious about opening any attachment or downloading files from emails you receive. Forward phishing emails to spam@uce.gov or reportphishing@antiphishing.org.

Unlike viruses, worms doesn’t need to attach itself to an existing program. Worms almost always cause harm to the network. Worms can also infect computers through web sites, file sharing systems, instant messages, and more.

To protect yourself against computer worms, you should be wary of opening unexpected e-mails and should not run attached files or programs. You also shouldn’t visit web sites that are linked to such emails. Anti-virus and anti-spyware softwares are also helpful, but it must be kept up-to-date with new pattern files. Some people say that the best way to protect yourself against computer worms is not to run Microsoft software.

-Email worms::spreading goes through infected by email messages.
-Instant messaging worms
-Internet worms::able to scan all available network resources using local operating system services. It can also scan the Internet for vulnerable machines.
-IRC worms::sending infected files by chat channels
-File sharing Network Worms::It can copy itself into a shared folder

A virus is a program to change the way a computer operates, without the permission or knowledge of the user. It copies a computer boot sector or document. Some viruses are programmed to damage the computer by deleting files or reformatting the hard disk. Others are designed to duplicate themselves and make their presence by presenting a text, video, and audio messages. In 1983, Fred Cohen coined the computer virus. He said a virus is “a program that can ‘infect’ other programs by modifying them to include a possibly evolved copy of itself.”

There are two criteria’s of viruses.

-It must execute itself::it places its own code in the path of execution of another program
-It must replicate itself::it replaces other executable files with a copy of the virus infected file.

Viruses can easily spread by e-mail messages or instant messaging messages. That’s why you should never open an e-mail attachments unless you know who it’s from and that you know that you’re suppose to accept it. To avoid viruses, you should keep your computer current with the latest updates and antivirus tools. You should also stay informed about recent threats.
These are the 5 most recognized viruses
-File infection viruses
-Book sector viruses
-Master boot record viruses
-Multiplicative viruses
-Macro viruses

start Narrow

Atlantis

When we searched the word Atlantis 41,900,000 web pages showed up.

When we searched Atlantis continent and wrote shuttle, film, movie in ‘unwanted words’, only 18,200,000 web pages showed up.

Waterbury

When we wrote Waterbury and wrote Vermont VT in ‘one or more of these words’ and when we wrote Connecticut CT in ‘any of these unwanted words’ only 1,650,000 web pages were searched.

Advanced search was used to search the above. We noticed that the more specific we made our searches the better quality and fewer web pages showed up. Unneeded information was eliminated because of the advanced search.

find Exact phrases

When we searched ‘San Diego State University’, 4,720,000 web pages showed up.

When we searched San Diego State University in ‘exact word or phrase’, 1,230,000 web pages showed up.

When we searched Bill 602P in ‘exact word or phrase’, only 120 web pages showed up.

when we searched We know he has weapons of mass destruction in ‘exact word or phrase’, only 30 web pages showed up.

When we searched demonstrating genuine leadership in ‘exact word or phrase’, only 94 web pages showed up.

Our next task (above) was to type in different words in ‘exact word or phrase’ box, and record how many web pages showed up. We noticed that when we used exact phrases, more specific and less web pages showed up.

Trim back the url

For example, the website ‘http://www.longwood.k12.ny.us/wmi/wq/collin/index.html’ could not be found. We trimmed the url by deleting every unnecessary words such as wmi/wq/collin/index.html. After we trimmed it, we reached the home page of the site.

After we found the home site, we searched in the site for Shakespeare. By searching at the real home site, we found that ‘http://www.longwood.k12.ny.us/wq/shakequest/Pages/index.htm’ was the site that could be found.

look for Similar pages

When we searched www.ssischool.org on ‘find pages similar to the page’, we had 27 results about other schools in vietnam and other information.

When we searched www.ssischool.org on ‘find pages that links to the page’, we had 4 web pages that showed up.

(write in the beginning of video)

Sulfur was found in ancient/prehistoric times and is unknown where it was found and who found it. On the map that we have edited, I have posted the sign, S, on the mediterranean sea because I wasn’t able to find the information.

(also written before video of poem)
Sulfur is an element that is classified as a non-metal and is pale yellow. It was found and known since pre-historic times. It is odorless, tasteless, is brittle solid, and its symbol is <S>. Sulfur’s atomic number is 16, which means that sulfur has 16 protons and electrons, and has a mass of 32.066. It also has 16 neutrons in its atoms. Sulfur is included in the chalcogen and the group’s number is also 16. It is located in the oxygen, selenium, tellurium, and polonium family. Sulfur has a melting point of 115.21˚c and a boiling point of 444.60˚c. That’s a big difference, right? Sulfur can also be spelt as ‘sulphur’ and ‘sulpur. ’Its native form sulfur is a yellow crystalline solid and sulfur is usually used for gunpowder, medicine, matches, and insecticides.

Last week Thursday, November 9th, was international day at SSIS. On that day, we learned about poverty in the world by the presentations and activities of Cross Roads from Hong Kong. All middle and high school students participated and it was an exciting day. We first listened to a longbut inspiring presentation from DJ, a representative from Cross Roads. After the astonishing presentation we were divided in to ‘families’ and we had to make paper bags to earn money for survival. All families had to make good and usable paper bags and had to sell them to gain money for food, sanitation, rent, doctor, and schools. We were doing this simulation because a large number of people live in slums sell paper bags for survival. For lunch this day, we had to eat just rice and vegetables with our fingers, not forks or spoons. This was another simulation and it gave us the idea of what and how most people that are unfortunate eat.

By doing these simulations and listening to presentations, I have learned about the world. Of course i knew there are a lot of people in this big world that are poor and are in need, but international day taught me exactly how most people live to survive their unfortunate life. While i was listening to the presentations it made me think about the people on the streets in Vietnam that beg for money and the people i met when I went to orphanages. They might not sell paper bags for their survival, but they still have an extremely hard time living each and every single day. The paper bag simulation taught me that the people that are in need try really hard even if it’s a small job to earn as much money as they can to live. We get our food from the market, water from our homes, and we live in airconditioned houses. However, a huge amount of people don’t and that impacted me and made me feel that i really need to help them. When I go to church, there are about 10 people who are there every week that beg and beg for even a bit of our attention and money. I usually ignore them and just go past them but now I think I should give them even a small amount of money. I can already imagine their smiles on their faces when I give them a bit of money and hope for their survival. Even if I am in 8th grade, I realized that I can still do a lot of things to help the poor and give them smiles on their faces. Every single person in this whole world that is fortunate enough to even use and have 4 dollars a day can help and give hope to people that are included in the circle of poverty.

A day in the world’s shoes really impacted me and gave me a chance to reflect how i lived and I bet it impacted each and every student in our school. I think we all should participate in every single charity programs we are running in our school or even have individual projects for helping the poor in need. This international day influenced me and I really respect the people who try incredibly hard to help the poor walk out of the circle of poverty with confidence and a better life.
